The Irregularity Index is a mathematical system by which every ballot in the Podcaster Poll is assigned a point value indicating how different their picks were compared to the average ballot and the aggregated poll results.
Every pick on every ballot individually receives a point value determined using the average placement of that team and the standard deviation of the pick from that average. These point values are then totaled, giving the ballot it Irregularity Score.
A score around 30 is generally the average, the higher the score the more irregular the ballot is.
Having a more irregular ballot does not mean the ballot is more unreasonable or less valid, quite the contrary, irregular ballots are what toss things up and make the bold predictions that college football talk thrives on. We certainly don’t encourage oddity for the sake of oddity, but irregular ballots are necessary and wonderful.
