In the little over a week since the transfer portal reopened on April 15th, Colorado has seen tens of players enter the transfer portal. Some of these entries include:
Defensive Lineman Tyas Martin, defensive back Keyshon Mills, defensive back Dylan dixson, defensive back Nikko Reed, tight end Austin Smith, running back Jayle Stacks, defensive lineman Allan baugh, tight end Zach Courtney, wide reciever Chase Sowell, linebacker Shakaun Bowser, and linebacker Kaden Ludwick.
Further, defensive lineman Na’im Rodman, who has 53 tackles and is a 17 game starter, has joined the group alongside defensive back Tyrin Taylor who had 35 tackles, one INT, and nine starts over two seasons for Colorado. Even just within the past hour, linebacker Devin Grant became the eighth player just since the Buff’s spring game to enter the transfer portal. He had 27 tackles over two seasons in Boulder.
Just a single day after leading the team in the spring game, wide receiver Montana lemonious-Craig entered the portal.
Possibly the most staggering loss is that of wide receiver Jordyn Tyson just an hour ago. Tyson led Colorado in both receiving yards and touchdowns in 2022 as the team’s wide receiver one.
Not only is Colorado losing players to the portal, but the recruiting trail is taking a hit as four star cornerback Ju’Juan Johnson has decommitted from the team.
At this point, any fanbase would be crushed, their hopes dashed but DNVR Buffs, the Pod Poll’s voter representing Colorado, remains unworried saying,”Sure. This is just what Coach Prime said he was going to do. Yeah it hurts to see some of these guys go and some good players that could have helped this year are entering the portal but Coach Prime came here to rebuild the roster and that’s what he’s doing”
Despite the record exodus from Boulder through the transfer portal and the loss of talent on both sides of the ball, Colorado still has high hopes for 2023 and beyond. They truly believe in Coach Prime’s ability to turn the program around in short order.
Amid the losses, there hasn’t been a lack of portal pickups for Coach Prime. Yesterday, former Kentucky safety Vito Tisdale committed to Colorado.
In total hope is far from lost for Buffalo fans. The Colorado faithful have faith in Deion, and even if 2023 doesn’t prove to be Colorado’s year, they’re in it for the long haul. While the hope is that the Buffs can build a portal team much like USC did going into 2022, the restructuring of the entire roster will likely take time, and Buffalo fans are ready. It is undeniable that this team is different than the one that went 1-11 just this past season, but will it be enough to keep up with the strongest PAC 12 in memory?
